This election season, I have often found myself discussing the principles behind Ron Paul’s political philosophies. The conversations often end in deadlock because the other person and I have a fundamental disagreement about the federal government’s role in regulating civil rights and services. Other times, the conversations end in my jaw hitting the floor because I receive statements like this:
Well affirmative action is just a form of collectivism. Ron doesn’t believe in group rights like black rights, gay rights, women rights but rather individual rights. If we had individual rights then we wouldn’t have to worry about it.
That’s the Paul supporter version of “I don’t see race”.
At The Dish, a reader reflects on the first gay first kiss:
Dan Savage wrote: “The growing civil equality of gays and lesbians—from marriage equality in Canada and New York to the end of DADT in the USA—is revealing a lot of things.” Among them, just how non-existent a threat it all was, he says. And I think in retrospect that THIS is what the right was most afraid of. Not that society as they knew if would crumble, or that God would damn everyone. But that things wouldn’t change at all. That their story about hellfire and damnation would be revealed for what it was: pure fiction. And that in large measure, their authority (moral or otherwise) would be diminished.
And it is.
The Boston SlutWalk workshop schedule is now up! Topics range from language and polyamory to partner violence and men’s involvement in preventing sexual assault. All workshops are free and open to the public. So after you finish your strut downtown, head over to Encuentro 5, 5th floor at 33 Harrison Ave in Chinatown. Workshops start at 3 PM!
Sadly, as much as I would love to be there this Saturday, my presence is required elsewhere. I’ll be there in spirit! Just not in bondage tape.
I had the pleasure to meet Siobhan Connors, one of the organizers of Boston Slutwalk, during a sign-making event last Tuesday. Though new to event organizing, she and two other organizers have already generated massive interest. Almost 2,000 people RSVP’d yes on Facebook with another 1,300 pencilling in as maybes. The event has been covered in the Boston Metro and Huffington Post. Sex educator Megan Andelloux and dominatrix Princess Kali are attending. Kinksters in the Greater Boston Area are organizing a related meetup on Fetlife. This Slutwalk is growing, and judging from our spirited conversation, Siobhan is excited that so many people are passionate about fighting rape culture.
I’m excited, too! I’ll be putting more photos of upcoming events at my Flickr. Come May 7th at 12pm, I’ll be strutting in bondage tape at Government Center.

Inspired SlutWalk Toronto, two young ladies have organized a Boston Slutwalk! If you’re free on May 7th, come out to Government Center at 12pm. Meet fellow sluts and see Jaclyn Friedman, founder of WAM!, speak at the event! Further information about Boston Slutwalk and opportunities for you to contribute can be found at Tumblr, Twitter or Facebook.
You can be sure that I’ll be there. This will just be a continuation of my weekly post-liaison stroll.
